“You did it! Congratulations! Worlds best cup of coffee. Great job everybody!”
This quote from the movie Elf is one of my all time favorites. It is amazing and makes me laugh. Every time.
If you haven’t seen the movie or don’t remember the quote, it comes from a scene where Buddy the Elf is walking down the streets of New York city. As he is walking, Buddy sees a neon sign in the window of a diner that says “Worlds Best Cup of Coffee.” Naturally, Buddy the Elf - who of course is none other than Will Farrel dressed in green tights - walks into the storefront. As soon as he enters, he loudly proclaims: “You did it! Congratulations! World’s best cup of coffee. Great job everybody!”
The reason this is funny, of course, is because this is a dirty greasy diner and everybody is just staring at this guy dressed like an elf congratulating them for what is presumedly, terrible coffee. The entire scene barely takes 20 seconds but offers an insight into the response of a group of people who know they didn’t deserve the congratulations. They just stood there and stared, not moved by someone’s excitement for their non-accomplishment.
As today, February 28, is D-Day for HMDA, I want to congratulate all of you HMDA reporters for submitting your LAR.
You did it. Congratulations. World’s best HMDA LAR. Great job everybody.
Now, go take a nap. You deserve it.
p.s. If you want the thanks you deserve, reply to this message and we will congratulate you properly. ;-)
