On September 18, 2026, the Ballard Spahr reported that the Senate Banking Committee voted 13-11 in a party-line decision on September 17 to advance Brian Johnson’s nomination to become Director of the CFPB. The nomination now advances for consideration by the full Senate.

A full Senate floor vote regarding the appointment has not yet been scheduled.
