Trump Removes Harper and Otsuka from the NCUA Board

On April 16, 2025, the ABA Banking Journal reported that Trump removed Todd Harper and Tanya Otsuka, known Democrats, from the NCUA board despite both having several years left in their board terms. The action leaves only Chairman Kyle Hauptman on the three-person board.

According to the ABA Banking Journal’s article, Harper and Otsuka decried the move saying it undermined the agency’s independence. The White House has not issued any statements about the firings.
