Trump Nominates New CFPB Leader

On June 10, 2026, the ABA Banking Journal reported that President Trump nominated Brian Johnson to serve as the next director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) for a five-year term. Johnson currently serves as an executive at Capital One and previously held a leadership role at the CFPB during Trump's first administration.

Johnson served as the CFPB's deputy director during President Trump's first term and has also held several positions on Capitol Hill, including policy director and chief financial institutions counsel for the House Financial Services Committee. His nomination comes as Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought continues to serve as acting CFPB director, a role that also makes him a member of the FDIC Board of Directors.

Johnson's nomination must be confirmed by the Senate, and if approved, he would serve a five-year term as CFPB director.
