On June 12, 2026, FinCEN released updated guidance to clarify how financial institutions can share information with each other about suspected fraud under section 314(b) of the USA PATRIOT Act. The guidance forms part of the Administration’s whole-of-government initiative to combat fraud and prevent criminals from taking advantage of individuals and businesses.

On June 5, 2026, FinCEN, jointly with the FDCI, OCC, and NCUA, issued an advisory to advise banks to be vigilant against fraud schemes and other suspicious or potentially criminal activities involving the unlawful employment of illegal aliens and the associated risks to the integrity of the U.S. financial system.

On May 28, 2026, the OFAC updated its Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN) List by removing sanctions on 76 outdated targets. According to its press release, the removals are part of Treasury’s ongoing sanctions modernization initiative.

On May 22, 2026, the FDIC Board of Directors approved a proposed rule that would implement BSA and sanctions compliance standards applicable to FDIC-supervised permitted payment stablecoin issuers (PPSIs) as required by the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins Act (GENIUS Act).  The FDIC is the primary Federal regulator of PPSIs that are subsidiaries of insured state nonmember banks and state savings associations approved by the FDIC to issue payment stablecoins.

On May 11, 2026, FinCEN issued a Notice to urge financial institutions to be vigilant in detecting, identifying, and reporting suspicious activity connected to human trafficking associated with the 2026 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup.

On May 11, 2026, FinCEN issued an Alert to help financial institutions identify and stop funding streams and procurement networks supporting Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Alert outlines how the IRGC facilitates and launders the proceeds of illicit oil sales by using networks of shell companies and financial facilitators. 

On May 6, 2026, FinCEN updated several of its Q&As on Customer Due Diligence Requirements for Financial Institutions to align with the exceptive relief order issued on February 13, 2026. The reissued FAQs also consolidate three sets of previously issued FAQs published in 2016, 2018, and 2020 into a single document.

FinCEN recently published its FinCEN Year in Review for FY 2025. The Year in Review is intended to help stakeholders gain insight into both FinCEN’s efforts to support law enforcement and national security agencies and how financial information is used.
